Onam is the national festival of Kerala, it is celebrated in Chingam. The festivals start with Atham and ends with Thiruvonam. There have a lot of traditional and cultural programs related to the onam celebrations. According to the stories in Hindu epics, Mahabali, the legendary King of Kerala, visits the state every year during the Onam festival, to ensure the wellbeing of the people. Onam Celebrations
One of the main attractions of Onam, is the ‘Vallamkali‘ or boat races of Karuvatta, Payippad, Aranmula and Kottayam. Onam is for all people of all class and creed. Pookalam
Pookalamis the main and important elements in the part of onam celebrations,peoples make intricately designed flower in the front courtyard of house to welcome King Mahabali. Various flowers are used on each day as a specific flower is dedicated to each day of Onam. Kaikotti kali and Thumbi Thullal are two graceful dances performed by women on Onam.
